Vancouver sushi...

It's not often that I get defeated by sushi, but this was an exception...

Despite the fact that I'm going for sushi tomorrow night with Greg, Kirsten, Jen and Geoffrey, I couldn't resist the temptation and went tonight. Now perhaps it's been so long that I've forgotten how big Vancouver sushi is, or perhaps this restaurant served particularly large sushi, but regardless I was thoroughly beaten by the sushi I had tonight.

I had some soft shell crab to start with. In most places you'd get a fairly small crab on a few bits of decorative salad, but I they gave me a very nice tasting soft shell crab that could probably have held its own in a fight with a small dog as well as some yummy tempura asparagus too and a bowl of miso soup.

At this point I started to think I might be in trouble. Then the sushi boat arrived. In addition to what seemed like it would be a nice small sushi selection (one dragon roll: tempura prawn with cucumber inside, then avocado and tempurafied unagi on the outside with a dusting of those tiny orange roe outside) and 8 pieces of sushi, I got 4 other pieces of sushi which I hadn't had in a while. Back in London that'd be a nice sized meal but the size of the sushi here made me think I'd made a mistake!

See this:

Not a great picture, but you get the idea of the size of the fish...

Needless to say after most of the dragon roll and a bunch of sushi, I was stuffed, and I ended up leaving 4 bits. I suppose I could have got a doggy bag, but I don't think I'd be able to eat it later either...

Right, better sign off now as I have to be up early for the fishing tomorrow!
