More pictures

We took the train yesterday from Agra to Jaipur - it was supposed to leave at about 5pm and get in around 10, so a fairly long trip. What we didn't know was that the reason it took so long was that it went from one station in Agra (rather late), and stopped in two more stations which were about 15 minutes walk away for about an hour. So by the time we actually left Agra on the "Intercity Express" it was almost 7:30.

It was dark by the time we got out of town, so we didn't see any of the countryside, and were met in Jaipur by the driver from the hotel. The hotel we're staying at is fantastic. It's a former palace for a Maharajah which has been converted into a heritage hotel and we are staying in the Maharajah suite thanks to my mum's secretary's excellent bargaining skills.

Jaipur is known as the Pink City for the fairly good reason of all the buildings being painted orangey-pink. This was done for the visit of someone important and since it looked quite good, they kept it up.

It's been interesting in the different places we've visited, seeing all the different animals used for transport. In Delhi there were a lot of bullocks and oxen, while in Agra there were a lot more horses and donkeys. Here in Jaipur there are a fair number of camels and elephants which seem to be being used.

Anyway, the connection here is appalling so I have only been able to upload a few photos. I'm hoping it gets better, but if not, I may not be uploading much for a while...
