Delhi photos
Lots of photos taken today, so I'm going to only upload a selection of the better ones. We went on a city tour today - guide was crap, but at least mum had been here before and we had a guide book to fill in where the tour guide was lacking - ie everywhere.
I will try and remember the various bits of info associated with the photos, so here they are.
Enjoy:
This is in the Red Fort - a massive complex in the middle of Old Delhi which is still in use as a military base. A small section is open to the public and this is one of the buildings within. See the inlaid marble pattern-work
A close up of some of the inlay
Some kind of parakeet
Some temples/shrines
Arty photo at the Red Fort
At the Red Fort
More inlays
And again - looks very dark on this computer - hopefully will show up ok on yours!
One of the buildings in the Red Fort
Dark again - hope it shows up ok
The largest mosque (I forget whether just in India, or in the world...pretty big anyway)
Outside the Red Fort
Under the Red Fort
Some throne in the Red Fort (ok, my memory is failing me now...)
Outside the mosque
Ditto
This was at Humayun's tomb
The streets of Old Delhi
Ditto
Ditto
A typical roofline
Up close at the Qutb Minar
Humayun's tomb building
Closer
Up the steps to Humayun's tomb
The building from further off
A rival King's tomb - he definitely got the cheap seats...
Shop stalls along the road
Some fairly new temple that looks like a rip off of the Sydney Opera House
At the Qutb Minar
Ceiling detail at one of the Qutb Minar buildings
An Indian Squirrel - looks more like a chipmunk if you ask me...
The Iron Pillar - liberated in some war and brought back to Delhi as a trophy. It's been rust-free for quite a few centuries...
Detail on the pillar
