New York Bar and Grill
Mum and I went to the New York Grill last night up on the 52nd floor of the Park Hyatt in Tokyo. For those of you who have seen Lost in Translation, it's the bar with the singer in that Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson have a few drinks in with the stunning views over Tokyo.
We had a great meal - we went for the Wagyu beef for our main course. For those of you who don't know about Wagyu beef, the cows are given beer and sake and are massaged during their lives and it gives the meat an incredible marbled look with the fat evenly distributed throughout the meat. This makes the meat so tender you can pretty much "cut" it with a fork...
My only criticism of the restaurant is that it only serves American wines (with the exception of course of the champagne which by definition has to come from France). The Maitre d' (who was French) had a wry grin on his face when I asked him for a recommendation of a wine because "We normally don't drink American wines". He was most pleased, but he did manage to make a slightly backhanded compliment to American wines later in the meal when he said "This wine is quite good...the thing with American wines is that there are some very bad ones, but some can be good..."
The meal was great and we finished it off by sitting in the bar area with a glass of Suntory (I've actually been drinking it since before Lost in Translation you cynics) and listening to the live musicians before they finished off for the night.
I got a few photos in the bar and out the windows...so enjoy.

In the bar again - check out the motion blur of the waiter to the left!
