Chinese takeaway
Well...travel blog restarts for a week. I'm in China with my mum - she's been out here for 3 week stints over the last few months. We're spending 4 days in Beijing, one day in Shanghai, then 3 or 4 days in Hong Kong.
This is day 2 in Beijing and we've just got back from a walk in Beijing. We had a great dinner last night after we got in - went to the Da Dong Duck restaurant which seems to be pretty famous in Beijing. I've got a number of pictures from there.
Today we took a taxi up to some of the lakes in Beijing and had a walk around them and a boat ride too. The pollution here is incredible. The sky is grey, and even though today it was sunny, it looked like a bright full moon rather than the sun. Not sure if the photos will do it justice!
Anyway...photos!
The sun, believe it or not...
Picture taken back up to the White Pagoda on the Jade Islet in Beihai Park
Taken from the White Pagoda looking South
Looking East to a temple up on a hill by the Forbidden City
The top of the White Pagoda
Don't mess...
See the smog...
Forbidden City
Prize for identifying something you can actually do in the park...
Another view of the temple
Sun again...
At Huxley's everyone knows your name...
Either the Bell Tower of the Drum Tower - we didn't go over to it this time...
From our boat trip
Typical side street scene
Fishing for Carp
My usual hangout...
One of the lakes
A genuine Chinese Starbucks *cough*
Dinner at the duck restaurant...we were kind of full
Some gateway!
Carving the duck
That dish in the middle there is jellyfish - it was quite acidic tasting but nice...
The duck...
Lobster noodles and spicy shrimp
Sea cucumber - very nice!
